Back in the 1990s I wrote a little book of patterns for young lacemakers, and over the years these patterns have appeared in the Lace Guild’s Young Lacemaker magazine. Recently the pattern for the yacht appeared in the July 2017 issue of Lace but unfortunately the gremlins had been at work and it was printed at the wrong size for the suggested thread. As it happened I had been thinking of adding these young lacemaker patterns to my website and, as I wanted to make the yacht pattern available at the correct size, this prompted me to get it done.
Cicking on a picture below will take you to a PDF file with the pattern and instructions for the lace illustrated. The instructions are written assuming basic knowledge of bobbin lace techniques — how to make a pricking, wind bobbins, work cloth stitch and so on, but instructions for these are available in Bobbin Lace — Getting Started, which I wote for beginners at my weekly lace classes.
